After being teased by Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz on Monday, the Sonic the Hedgehog trailer has arrived. The threequel, again directed by Jeff Fowler, brings Sonic, Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba) together again, but this time adding Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog.
Shadow is a fan-favorite character who was shown with the post-credits stinger at the end of Sonic 2. We see that Project Shadow is mentioned and that Shadow’s powers are truly remarkable, even easily taking out Knuckles. We also see Sonic turn to an unlikely ally in Robotnik to take down his new powerful enemy. Check it out below!
Since Sonic 2, they’ve kept some of the characters busy and expanded the story with Knuckles’ mini-series on Paramount+. The series featured Elba and Adam Pally reprising their roles and was more in tune with the first Sonic movie with Knuckles discovering the joys of life on Earth.
Jim Carrey will also return as Dr. Robotnik, with James Marsden and Tika Sumpter returning as Sonic’s Earth family, Tom and Maddie Wachowski, respectively. Additionally, Krysten Ritter, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, James Wolk, and Jorma Taccone were cast in undisclosed roles.
Both Sonic movies have collectively earned over $720 million at the global box office and became huge hits with audiences.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is scheduled to be released on December 20.
